1. Bar Chart

First of all, bar chart is the best type to practice your Describe Image task with templates. Because it provides all of the factors clearly and logically. These factors include the topic, figures, differences or similarities and so on. 

Bar Chart Describe Image Template:

1. The bar chart represents the information about (TOPIC/ TITLE).
2. As we can see from the chart, the highest figure is (FIGURE) which is (NAME), following by (NAME).
3. However, the lowest figure is (FIGURE) which is (NAME).
4. In conclusion, it can be seen that (SIMILARITY/ DIFFERENCE).

2. Pie Chart

This is similar to the bar chart, you can simply mention the highest and lowest figures and any other important features (similarity/ difference) that show in the pie chart. 

Pie Chart Describe Image Template:

1. The pie chart illustrates the information about (TOPIC/ TITLE).
2. It is clear from the pie chart that this largest figure is (FIGURE) which is (NAME), following by (NAME).
3. However, the smallest part is occupied by (NAME), which is (FIGURE). 
4. In conclusion, it can be said that (SIMILARITY/ DIFFERENCE).

3. Line Chart

Before talking about the line chart template, we should know that there are 3 basic line charts in the PTE Describe Image task – single line, parallel line, and cross line charts. The most significant part is describing these trends clearly. 

These sentences may be helpful when you describe a trend. 

“the figures rose sharply to reach a peak of ……”

“the number gradually declined to reach a low of ……”

“the figures fluctuated between …… and …….”

“it gradually rose, peaking at ……”

“after several ups and downs, it touched a peak/low of ……”

“the number eventually decreased/increased to ……”

Line Chart Describe Image Template:

1. The line chart describes information about (TOPIC/ TITLE).
2. The highest figure in (NAME) is at (FIGURE), and it gradually declined/increased to reach a low/high of ((FIGURE). 
3. In contrast, the lowest figure in (NAME) is at (FIGURE), and it gradually rose/dropped to (FIGURE). 
4. In conclusion, it can be seen that (TREND). 

4. Table Chart

In this type, it is unnecessary describe all of the figures in the table. It is important to find out the comparative figures or trends first, and simply mention the elements that are provided in the chart. 

Table Chart Describe Image Template:

1. The table provides important information about (TOPIC/TITLE). 
2. As we can see from the table, there are several figures in terms of (ELEMENT A), (ELEMENT B), (ELEMENT C)… …
3. The highest figure is (FIGURE) which is (NAME), while the lowest figure is (FIGURE) which is (NAME). 
4. Moreover, from (TIME) to (TIME), the figure of (NAME) was increased/decreased significantly/gradually. 
5. In conclusion, it can be said that (TREND). 

5. Flow Chart

Flow chart requires to describe a process in sorted order. Therefore, you need to master  vocabularies regarding to some changes such as “develop”, “convert”, “transform”, and “turn into”. This task is sometimes tricky because there are too many or few processes to describe for 40 seconds. The core part to complete this type of task is that cut off or add more details from the provided flow chart. 

Flow Chart Describe Image Template:

1. The flowchart/ diagram gives the process/ life cycle of (TOPIC/TITLE). 
2. There are various steps/stages in the flow chart. 
3. Initially/ in the first step/stage, (THE FIRST PROCESS). 
4. Moreover, it is transformed/converted into (THE SECOND PROCESS).
5. In the next step/stage, it is further developed/turns into (THE THIRD PROCESS). 
6. Finally, (THE FINAL PROCESS).

5. Map, Mixed Chart, and Picture

For these three types, there are no special universal template can be used. However, you can always practice with more real exam questions and apply different types of describe image templates flexibly. For example, you may change the flow chart template a bit to describe a map. 

Map Describe Image Template:

1. The map provides information about (TOPIC/TITLE). 
2. There are various places described in the map such as (PLACE NAMES). 
3. Initially, in the north, (FACTS/ELEMENTS).
4. Moreover, in the middle part of the map, (FACTS/ELEMENTS).
5. Lastly, in the south, (FACTS/ELEMENTS).

1. Litchfield Population

PTE Describe Image Sample Answer – Litchfield Population 

This graph contains the information about the population of Litchfield from 1901 to 2011. The information is shown in a line and the population is shown by the blue-shaded area under the line. It starts at about 7500 in 1901 and gradually increased to about 10,000 in 1951. After that, the population increased much more rapidly and reached about 22,000 in 1971. The increase slowed down later and concluded at about 24,000 in 2011. There was a slight decrease from 1991 to 2001. In conclusion, the graph provides significant information about the population of Litchfield. 

2. Air Composition

The pie chart represents approximate composition of the air. As we can see from the chart there are oxygen, other gases, and nitrogen in the atmosphere. In addition, Nitrogen is the first most abundant gas in the atmosphere which occupies 79%, flowing by Oxygen which is 20%. In terms of other gases, it includes carbon dioxide, argon, and water vapour have proportion of 1%. In conclusion, the chart is very useful since it clearly shows the composition of the air.

3. Renewable Energy

The picture gives information about renewable energy from different sectors such as heating and cooling, transport and power. In terms of heating and cooling, the total energy consumption in London is 51% which includes 10% of renewable energy. In addition, there is 32% of total energy consumption comes from transport, which only covers 3% of renewable energy. Lastly, 17% of energy is used by power, while it produces 26% of renewable energy. In conclusion, the major sector for renewable energy is power.

4. Internet Users

The bar chart shows information about Internet users who accessed via a mobile phone in 2011 by different age groups. As we can see from the chart, the youngest age group constitutes the highest proportion which is about 70%. However, the lowest percentage is from the age group of over 65 years which is only 8%, following by the age group of 55 to 64 years which is around 20%. In conclusion, the main users who accessed internet via a mobile phone is the age group of 16 to 24 years. 

5. Ship Lock

The picture gives information about how a ship lock works and how the process is done. As we can see from the picture, the dam and lock system is used for lowering  ships between water of different levels. The ship gets through a waterway by going into a lock, which is a big chamber in the water with moveable gates at each end. Then the boat continue into the next lock, until it reaches the end of the system. The locks enable river vessels to go down a river from upstream to downstream. In conclusion, the picture is very informative.

The flow chart represents the life cycle of a tomato plant. A tomato plant begins life as a seed. The seed becomes a young plant as it grows roots that reach into the soil and a stem that grows toward the sun. As it grows taller, it becomes a mature plant with a strong stem and many leaves. When the season is right, the mature plant grows flowers. The flowers mature into fruit that we call a tomato. Inside each fruit are many new seeds. The picture represents the Sweden government budget in 2018. As we can see from the picture, there are two sections are compared which are expenditure SEK and Revenue SEK respectively. Specifically, the revenue SEK is occupied 1043 billion, while the expenditure SEK is 999 billion. In conclusion, the Sweden government budget for expenditure is lower than its revenue in 2018.

3. Municipalities and Precipitation of Gariep Basin

The picture is about the municipalities and precipitation of Gariep Basin. According to the picture, we can find that 90 to 100% of municipalities can be found in the North and East of Basin. Followed by that 30 to 50% of municipalities can be found in the central of Basin. Besides, in terms of average precipitation, the record range is from 3mm to -3 mm. The west and north east of the Basin is extremely dry which has the record of -3mm. In conclusion, the development of the city might have close relation with precipitation since we can find lower percentage of municipalities is in the area with low precipitation.
