It is important to note that you will score 2 out of 3 for content even if you speak more than 50% of the words from the recording. So if the recording is 10 words long and if you correctly speak 6 words, you still get 2 out of 3 for content.

The rest of the scoring is for pronunciation and oral fluency. You will score better if you speak a sentence with 60% accuracy and you are fluent than if you speak with 100% accuracy and have breaks in between. So, just speak what you have heard as fluently as you can without breaks and hesitations, even when you miss out on a few words.

2. Imitate the stress and intonation of the sentence that you hear

Some people feel that you must mimic the speaker exactly in the PTE speaking test repeat sentence. The more important thing is that try to understand what the speaker is saying, and understand the speaker’s tone. Make a mental note of the way the speaker uses stress and intonation on the recoding. Speak clearly with copying this stress and intonation. If there is stress or emphasis on specific parts of the repeat sentence, you need to repeat those to get the full marks.

3. Focus to word order

It’s not enough just to remember all of the words, you need to remember them in the proper. Is there any simple trick for that? You’ll need to be listening very carefully and processing the words as you hear them. As you hear the sentence for the first time you need to focus only on the speaker and the words that you hear. You’ll have only 2 seconds after the speaker finishes talking before you need to answer. Some of our subscribers have reordered for some of repeat sentences by mistake, but still got good marks. The reason is that they have answered calm and fluent way, so that saved oral fluency scores.

4. Pay attention to fluency

Speaking fluent is not just about intonation, but also about how smooth your words sound and how easily you say them. You should maintain a normal pace and rhythm, and DO NOT hesitate, skip, repeat or start and stop. These things will cost you points and that’s going to hurt your score.

5. Listen to the phrasing of the sentence

You will be scored on the correct word order as said before, so the more phrases you understand, the better your reproduction of the sentence will be. For example, there are three phrases in this sentence, separated by “/“, and each one carries a separate information that has its own meaning:

  • The art course / has been cancelled / due to the new policy.

Therefore, it is important that focus on the meaning. If you understand meaning you will be able to repeat the sentence much more correctly and accurately.

Next PTE Repeat Sentence Tips and Tricks is that learn to memorize!

In your exam, you don’t have time to take notes or write down everything what you are hearing. In some cases you can note down an initials if that helps. For example, you can write down “ac, c, np” if you heard following sentence.

However, it largely it depends upon your memory and understanding. So practice a lot! Gradually, you’ll find it easier to remember.
