One of our students Elly Leung shared her experience of PTE preparation, she said “It’s hardly possible to get 79+ across all sections if your PTE speaking is a weak.”

If you’re a non-native English speaker, a strong speaking score on the Pearson Test of English (PTE) can increase your opportunities both at home and abroad. The spoken portion of this exam tests your speaking rhythm, tone, speed, and melody. And that is the reason that most of IELTS test takers often experience setbacks and challenges in their PTE speaking session because of different scoring system.

“I got overall band score 5.5 from IELTS test, and overall 53 from my first PTE exam. But as long as learning to apply the right method in the right way at the right points in the preparing PTE test will greatly improve your results. I got PTE overall score of 88 in the second attempt after preparing for four weeks.

Cut the crap, here are the tips and tricks how I prepared my PTE test.”

My PTE Experience – How to improve PTE speaking?

Read Aloud Tips

This is the beginning part of my daily routine. I mastered all of high-frequent questions and recent exam questions. After practice all the sentences from PTE question bank, I started finding out more new sources where have academic articles. PTE Bank support team recommended me the “NPR Science” which was so helpful and it’s free.

Repeat Sentence Tips

Although practicing with new sentences was useful to some degree, memorizing all the sentences of PTE question bank was more effective for me. Because my listening skill is limited, and I have to improve it in a short time.

Use Describe Image templates really works!

Retell Lecture Tips

When I master questions in PTE question bank, I also combined my own method. Since finding out all the key points from the recording in such a short time is a huge challenge to me, I may just take note of several random key sentences, and link them all together with linking words.

For example,

  • “The Lecture is about Sentence A + And then Sentence B + Also the lecture mentioned Sentence C + Finally the lecture described Sentence D…”

Important Note: These sentences must be wrote down by using the exactly same words from the recording.

Which Test is Easier? IELTS vs PTE

Personally speaking, PTE Academic as an exam is tougher than IELTS test. However, scoring in PTE is much more reliable and easier than IELTS.

Since PTE is computer based test, the chances of human bias while scoring is almost negligible.  I have attempted IELTS Academic exam 5 times in past, and in last attempt I was given overall score band 5.5.

It took me half a year to prepare IELTS test, but it was extremely difficult to improve to higher level. In contrast, PTE only took me 4 weeks to prepare to achieve 79+.
