Narration: Three students are discussing different types of classes at university.

Speaker1: There are no lectures in high school, so coming to university and adapting to new class forms has been quite a big change for me. Most of the classes at university are large lectures, and honestly, I sometimes find them really difficult to follow. Some teachers speak extremely fast during the lecture, and a few of them have strong accents, which makes it even harder for me to understand every knowledge point and detailed content they explain in class.

Speaker2: Personally, I have a different opinion and I quite like university lectures. One obvious advantage is that teachers will timely upload their PowerPoint slides and course materials online after class. So even if you miss a lecture or fail to catch every single detail during class, you can always review the complete slides and supplement your knowledge later. However, I still think small-group tutorials have their unique advantages that lectures cannot replace.

Speaker3: I totally agree with you that tutorials are much better in many ways, and I don’t really like long lectures either. University lectures are simply too long and tiring for students. Sometimes a single lecture lasts for a full hour, and some even extend to ninety minutes straight. It is really challenging to stay focused and concentrate on only one person speaking for such a long period of time without any interaction.

Speaker1: That’s exactly how I feel. Long lectures always make me feel distracted and exhausted. I strongly prefer tutorial classes, just like you mentioned. Tutorials are usually small-sized and highly interactive, so it’s much easier for us to get targeted help whenever we encounter confusing knowledge points.

Speaker2: That’s the biggest highlight of tutorials. The small class atmosphere allows students to communicate freely with tutors and classmates. Unlike large lectures where hundreds of students sit in one hall and hardly have a chance to interact, tutorials enable us to have in-depth discussions and share different learning ideas.

Speaker3: I’ve had really positive learning experiences in all my tutorial classes so far. Most of the tutors I’ve met are very patient and responsible. They will carefully explain confusing knowledge points repeatedly and provide extra learning guidance for students who fall behind.

Speaker1: Absolutely. I feel that lectures are more suitable for us to systematically learn basic theoretical knowledge in a short time. But when it comes to digesting difficult content and solving personal learning problems, tutorials are absolutely irreplaceable for university students.

Speaker2: That makes perfect sense. These two class forms have their own strengths. Lectures ensure the overall learning progress of all students , while tutorials make up for the lack of interaction and personalized teaching in large public classes.

Speaker3: I totally agree with this view. Combining lectures and tutorials perfectly is the best way for us to adapt to university study and improve our academic performance steadily.
