PTE Summarize Group Discussion – University Bookshop
Narration: Three students are discussing the university bookshop.
Speaker1: Hey guys, have you heard the university bookstore has closed down? I was totally heartbroken when I found out this morning. I used to stop by it regularly after my morning classes. It’s such a shame to lose such a friendly little spot on campus.
Speaker2: Oh no, that’s really sad news! I can’t believe it’s gone for good. I enjoyed the bookstore so much and feel the same way as you do. It was always such a nice place to browse books during my free time.
Speaker3: I just found out yesterday too, it’s really disappointing. E-books are definitely handy for on-the-go studying, and suit the current life and reading habits of students better. But physical books are still unbeatable for deep reading sessions. The bookstore staff were always so approachable too.
Speaker1: E-books are better than physical books in so many ways, I have to admit. They are super convenient, and you can carry hundreds of them on your phone which can be read anywhere. But your eyes easily get tired after long reading sessions, that’s the biggest downside. I really miss the feel of holding a physical book in my hands now.
Speaker2: Physical books are losing their place these days, but I am still firmly in “Team Physical”. I like to highlight key points on pages and jot down notes in the margins, which gives me the sense of focus. In the bookstore, the staff were so kind, who could quickly help find textbooks and recommend reference books. It made studying so much easier.
Speaker3: Once, I forgot my wallet there after buying a textbook, and they kept it safe until I went back for it hours later. That’s how nice the staff were, they really cared about students. The bookstore could have avoided closing if they would have adapted earlier to what students actually need. They were too focused on just selling books alone.
Speaker1: Really, for the bookstore selling only books is such a narrow focus. They missed so many chances to connect with students more. They should have added practical items and school supplies, including stationery, tech accessories and daily necessities. It would have made the store so much more useful for everyone.
Speaker2: You’re totally right, that’s such a wasted opportunity for them. If they’d sold more student essentials, it would have brought in way more regular customers. It’s sad to think they could have stayed open with just a few small changes. I’ll really miss browsing the textbook section there the most.
Speaker3: Exactly, they could have sold phone chargers, notebooks, pens, or other stationery like you said. Thus they could have created a one-stop spot to support students’ everyday academic life and brought in more customers. It’s such a pity they didn’t adapt in time, the bookstore was such a big part of campus life.
